NHS Health Check Conference 2016
Getting Serious about Prevention
On 1 March 2016, Public Health England held its third annual conference on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention focused on the NHS Health Check entitled 'Getting serious about prevention.' This conference was a huge success with stakeholders, including commissioners, providers and academics coming together to share, learn and act to improve efforts on preventing ill health and premature death.
There were workshops where professionals reported their findings from national and local research and evaluation (presentations can be found on the side of this page), as well as an interactive marketplace where attendees could ask questions and have their inquiries answered.
At the start and end of the conference, there were plenaries held for attendees to hear about the latest updates and ask questions to a panel of national and local leaders. On the panel in 2016 were:
- Lynda Seery, Public Health Specialist, Newcastle City Council
- Professor Kevin Fenton, National Director of Health and Wellbeing, Public Health England
- Councillor Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture, London Borough of Hackney Council
- Jamie Waterall, National Lead, NHS Health Check Programme, Public Health England
- Sir Bruce Keogh, Medical Director, NHS England
- Duncan Selbie, Chief Executive, Public Health England
- Dr Rosemary Leonard, GP and Media Medic
During the opening and closing plenary, Jamie Waterall and Kevin Fenton gave presentations. The downloads are available below.
Below are two short videos featuring key speakers covering what the conference is for and what they hope is taken from the 2016 conference. There are also some small snippets of shots around the marketplace and attendees interacting with the stalls.
One of the main features of the conference, alongside the marketplace, was the collection of posters on display from various public health organisations.
