Learner workbook supporting materials and training resources

The purpose of this resource is to support assessors in accessing relevant training materials and resources for each unit in the learner workbook. This will enable assessors to provide suitable support when competence gaps have been identified with their learners against a specific unit or learning outcome..

Each unit page includes a summary of the unit, the learning outcomes and supporting materials (national guidance, videos, presentations and e-Learning courses) relevant for that unit.

This resource has been developed in collaboration with the PHE South West NHS Health Check network group, please see acknowledgements here.

How to use the resource

This resource is designed to be used in conjunction with the NHS Health Check learner workbook and competence framework. Supporting materials and online training resources have been mapped against each of the 11 units in the learner workbook.

This resource is not designed to replace local training and the learner is not required to work through all 11 units. It is designed to support the assessor with identifying supporting materials to develop their learners skills and knowledge gap, of a specific unit or learning outcome, identified through local training and observations.

What you need to do: A Commissioner's Step-by-Step Guide

"As a council we were keen to include completion of the competency framework learner workbook in our service specifications with all providers this year. We have worked in partnership...to ensure that all learners, regardless of who they are employed by, are supported to complete the learner workbook."

A Learner's Experience

"I have been meeting with my assessor for a few weeks, and I have been delivering the NHS Health Check as a health care assistant for a few years. I am pleased to say that I have been assured that when I complete a few more bits of evidence and reflection, she (my assessor) will be happy to sign me off as competent. Hooray!!

The workbook is definitely like doing NVQ and I approached it from that perspective as I have done them before, but I am very pleased to have almost completed it so quickly. Now I have a large file and completed workbook to find a home for!!"
